Emotional Intelligence

At Birthright Coaching, our expertise is Total Inner Fitness - complete mental and emotional mastery. Such mastery includes critical skills of Emotional intelligence, essential elements of consistent peak performance.

Emotional Intelligence includes skills of emotional self-management as well as skills for managing our state of being. These are powerful cognitive and behavioral techniques, process oriented skills and practices anyone can master - given effective guidance and appropriate support.

Emotional self-management

Skilled emotional management helps us remain settled and focused regardless of life's challenges, making us more effective as well as peaceful - and happy.

Emotional self-management also helps us create distance from difficult patterns and conditioning (as when our "buttons" are pushed) easing our movement into authentic, purposeful life and more fulfilling relationships.

Experiences and thoughts trigger emotions, which are a complex collection of chemical and neural responses. They are the automatic response to our evaluation of an event, real or imagined. The thinking mind co-evaluates, creating meaning.

We compare experience (or our sense of self) to conditioned desires, preferences, and preconceived notions and when they don't match, emotions arise, motivating us to take action, operating on the world (or ourselves), attempting to correct the situation, making things "better."

At Birthright, our clients master skills for processing difficult emotions - skills for learning from emotions, skills for acting effectively in the presence of difficult emotions, and skills for releasing emotions after they have served any useful purposes.

 Manage and transcend disruptive emotions.
  • Stop negative self-talk and other self-defeating behavior.
  • Expand access to inner states of calm, confidence, ease, and joy.
  • Ease the path to success regardless of problems and challenges.
  • Eliminate emotionally driven thought patterns.
  • Control emotionally driven self-defeating behaviors.
  • Remain at peace regardless of life's challenges.

Internal roadblocks to effective action such as excessive self-consciousness and destructive self-talk - habits that fog our ability to think and act with clarity and conviction - are systematically brought under control.

Transform emotional roadblocks.

  • Envy
  • Sadness
  • Jealousy
  • Frustration
  • Anxiety and self-limiting fear
  • Destructive anger
  • Conditioned, excessive guilt
  • Inappropriate shame
  • Self-conscious embarrassment
  • Feelings of inadequacy, hopelessness and helplessness
  • Destructive self talk
  • Limiting emotionally driven thought patterns
  • Counterproductive emotionally driven behaviors

Emotional self-management enhances inner freedom. Skillfully and systematically enhancing inner freedom supports greater flexibility, focus, and effectiveness.

Well-researched cognitive and behavioral strategies as well as practices based in mindfulness are primary sources for these skillful techniques. These are specialized and generative skills anyone can master, given effective guidance and appropriate support.

Managing State of Being

State of Being refers to our overall condition at any given moment, including our perception of capacity, well-being, and internal energy.

When positive, our state of being can express an empowering sense of possibility and a sense of inner potency, enabling supportive, effective behavior and communications.

Positive, supportive states of being include feeling-states such playfulness, curiosity, compassion, anticipation, fascination, and love.

Feelings-states such as excitement, anticipation, appreciation, and gratitude are generated cognitively. Other supportive feeling-states are generated behaviorally, as with exercise or vigorous movement, such as dance.

The most stable feeling-states are built around personal qualities or character traits that can also be felt - being powerful, strong, tenacious, or compassionate are some examples.

Our clients access and express the full spectrum of supportive feeling-states - those generated internally as aspects of one's character as well as those generated cognitively and behaviorally.

These practical, powerful skills allow us to bring our ongoing state of being into clear alignment with purpose, vision, mission, and intention, improving focus, effectiveness, control, and potency - resulting in congruent, powerful action, supporting consistent satisfying success.

Generative feeling-states include:

  • Compassion
  • Love
  • Deep curiosity
  • Playfulness
  • Being powerful
  • Being appropriately aggressive - or even fierce
  • Stable feelings of inner strength
  • Tenacity
  • Appreciation
  • Gratitude

One can learn to access the appropriate mix of feeling-states for any situation, feeling-states that are supportive and generative, aiding one's ability to act and communicate appropriately and effectively - facilitating congruent, sustainable, and satisfying personal evolution and professional success.
